In 2002, Beacon Medical Group’s founding partners aspired to advance Professor Mark Redmond’s vision of developing state-of-the-art, gold standard medical facilities in Ireland.
BMG developed Beacon Medical Campus in Sandyford, Dublin, which now incorporates Beacon Hospital, Beacon Consultants Clinic, Beacon CARE Fertility, Beacon Renal, Beacon Medical Distribution, Wellington Eye Clinic, Beacon Women’s Centre, Evie, Beacon Face and Dermatology, Beacon Dental Clinic among a multitude of associated medical facilities.

Beacon Hospital is one of the most advanced private hospitals in Europe, with over 2000 Consultants, nurses and healthcare professionals providing 24 hour, world-class acute care services including orthopaedics, physiotherapy, cardiology, women’s health, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, plastic & reconstructive surgery, ENT, neurology, neurosurgery, general surgery, paediatrics, intensive care, , comprehensive cancer care and emergency medicine.

Beacon Renal
The BMG owned Beacon Renal commenced services in 2004 and was the first ever public/private partnership of its kind in Ireland, with the Health Service Executive.
Beacon Renal currently operates three dialysis units under contract to the HSE and referring public hospitals. They are the first and only satellite renal clinics outside of America to have achieved the prestigious International Joint Commission Accreditation Award.
Beacon Care Fertility
BMG also co-owns and operates Ireland’s most technologically advanced fertility clinic, Beacon CARE Fertility (incorporating the National Institute for Reproductive Genetics) in partnership with CARE Fertility, the UK’s largest IVF provider, which has pioneered ground breaking IVF treatment and embryo viability screening since 1997. There have been over 60,000 CARE babies born to date. Patients in Ireland can now access the very latest international techniques in all aspects of fertility including fertility assessments, IVF, IUI, autoimmune therapies, egg and sperm freezing (vitrification), PGS using the very latest technology of Next Generation Sequencing for embryo viability screening, recurrent miscarriage therapies and PGT.

Michael Cullen is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of both Beacon Hospital and Beacon Medical Group (BMG) located in Sandyford, Dublin.
In 2002, BMG was founded by Michael along with Professor Mark Redmond (Cardiothoracic Surgeon) and John Delaney (Chartered Account) with the goal of developing state-of-the-art, modern medical facilities in Ireland. Led by Michael, BMG developed Beacon Medical Campus in Sandyford, which now incorporates Beacon Hospital, Beacon Consultants Clinic and Concourse, Beacon CARE Fertility, Beacon Renal, Beacon Face and Dermatology and a number of other medical facilities.
Beacon Hospital is one of Europe’s most technologically advanced private hospitals with over 181 inpatient beds, 8 theatres with 300 consultants and nearly 2,000 healthcare professionals. Beacon Hospital treats over 250,000 patients each year. In 2023, Beacon Hospital’s satellite clinic Beacon Limerick opened, providing advanced private diagnostic, imaging & health screening services to Limerick and surrounding counties.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Dublin and previously was a finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He is a founding director of two charities, The Soul of Haiti Foundation and Pathways to Adoption which have provided support to the local population, schools and orphanages in Haiti.
Michael has two children and is also a keen motorsport enthusiast. He continues to race cars competitively both nationally and internationally. Michael has won fifteen National Motor Racing Championships and was European Ferrari Challenge Champion in 2005 and 2007.
Prof Mark J Redmond, Medical Director and co-founder of Beacon Hospital, is one of Ireland’s leading Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
Prof Redmond completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic training in the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, Maryland and USA. Throughout his three years on faculty, he held a number of prominent positions, including Director of Paediatric heart and Lung Transplant, Co-Director of Albert Broccoli center for Aortic Diseases and Director of The Cardiac Research laboratories at Johns Hopkins.
In 2000, he returned to Ireland and is currently a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Beacon Hospital, Our lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, the Mater Misericordiae Hospital and the Mater Private Hospital.He remains an active member of the full-time surgical faculty at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Professor Redmond is a regular lecturer at prominent medical conferences worldwide.
